Titled 'Dos Personajes' ('Two Characters') by the artist, the anamorphic forms of this piece echo later work of Spanish surrealist Joan Miró. These illusive characters are made up of highly abstracted forms, using a contrast between earthy tones and bright, vivid block colours.

Ekoué Arsène Assiongbon, known as 'Calicó', was a Togolese artist of the School of Lomé, known for his highly unique work which is often described as "mythical". An exemplary artist of the 'Art Brut' movement, pioneered by Jean DuBuffet, Calicó often used found materials in his work, creating original, expressive and often wild compositions inspired by his vision of the world. A credit to his wonderful career, the artist had a solo posthumous exhibition in France in 2017 called 'Calicó - Imprint of a genius', which celebrated his life and work.
