What appears to be a Plein air painting of the sun scorched plains of campos de villamayor. Golden cornfields and terracotta earth. In contrast are the lushest green hills in the background. His simplistic colourist approach has elements of abstract representation such as the french painter of Russian origin, Nicolas de Staël.
Artist Name: Albiac Bielsa, Virgilio. Fabara, Zaragoza, (1912-2011).
His artistic training began at the age of thirteen in Barcelona with the painter Eduardo Laforet. He later studied at the San Jorge School of Fine Arts, also in Barcelona, at the School of Arts and Crafts in Zaragoza and at the Higher School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving in Valencia, where he graduated in Fine Arts in 1940.
In the 1970s, he explored cubism and abstract art, a field that he rigorously cultivated and that culminated in the Informalist paintings Oceanographies , inspired by underwater themes.
Throughout his long career, Virgilio Albiac received numerous awards: Gold Medal at the Franco-Spanish Exhibition in Talance (France), 1963; City of Barcelona Prize for the II National Exhibition of Plastic Arts, 1970; San Jorge Award granted by the Provincial Council of Aragon, 1971; Title of Honorary Member of The National Geographic Society of Washington, 1973; first Valladolid National Prize for watercolor, 1977; and first National Prize for Painting Ateneo de Sevilla, 1992, among others. In 1979 he was appointed academician of the Royal Academy of Nobles and Fine Arts of San Luis de Zaragoza, and in 2001 he received the Aragón Goya Prize, the highest award given by the Aragonese community to writers and artists.
