With echoes of the lively still life paintings of Pierre Bonnard, who also favoured warm tones of orange and red in his work, this vibrant piece depicts a gorgeous arrangement of red and orange flowers. These bold, summer colours are reflected in the patterned tablecloth, beautifully tying the composition together.

Jose María Armengol Farré is a Spanish postwar and contemporary artist, born in 1954. Armengol Farré's work has clear influences of the work of Bonnard and Matisse, with his post-impressionist style landscapes and still lifes which favour vibrant colour and fluidity of forms.
