Guillermo Martinez Soliman - Still Life with Melon and Hare

Still life paintings of fruit and game animals such as this, have been a long-held tradition in Spanish art since the 16th century, known as the bodegón. In this work, the artist has been particularly inspired by the great master of this subject, Juan Sánchez Cotán (1560-1627). This is a richly painted masterpiece of the genre.

Guillermo Martinez Soliman was an Argentinian artist, who travelled to Europe in 1925, settling in Belgium where he lived and exhibited.
