Carolyn C. Sergeant - Landscape in Dover
Carolyn C. Sergeant - Landscape in Dover
At the beginning of her career, between 1955-62, Carolyn Sergeant studied at the Wimbledon School of Art, and later the Royal Academy Schools, where she was a silver medalist. This highly accomplished young artist had solo exhibitions at several prestigious galleries in London and across the UK, before moving to Wales with her husband, John, and their two sons, John and Edward, where the couple renovated a farmhouse together for a number of years. Carolyn went on to have her work exhibited in many of London's leading galleries until late in her career. Amongst the artist's most recognisable works are her outstanding paintings of plants and flowers, from still life compositions to botanical studies, as well as the idyllic landscapes of her native surroundings.
Depicting the Duke of York's Royal Military School in Dover, a town which was a frequent subject for the artist, this delightful landscape is a testament to Sergeant's skill. With beautifully handled light and perspective, this is a fantastic chance to own one of this highly esteemed artist's earlier works, for which auction records have reached over $5,000.
