Daniel Merino - 'Playa con Figuras' (Beach with Figures)
Daniel Merino - 'Playa con Figuras' (Beach with Figures)
With muted tones and Merino's signature wispy brushwork, this painting beautifully evokes a fading memory of a day at the beach. The figures and scenery are created with a graceful translucency, as they begin to vanish into the air. An entrancing and nostalgic image, with a spectacular use of layer and texture.
Born in Madrid in 1941, Daniel Merino was a Spanish Postwar and Contemporary painter. Known for his imaginative works which are characterised by swift brushstrokes to create a whirlwind or ethereal atmosphere, highly evocative of memories or dreams, Merino painted anything around him, from landscapes and cityscapes to figures and objects, often with elements of cubism.
