Sabrina Shah - Figures with Masks and Birds
Sabrina Shah - Figures with Masks and Birds
Like stepping into a dream or distant memory, this is an extraordinary and at times bewildering scene. Brilliantly painted in confident stokes of thinly applied oil, the imagery washes over you, creating a wonderful sense of mystery.
This contemporary artist gained her M.A. from the Royal College of Art and has exhibited widely across the UK, including at Pallant House Gallery and Liverpool Museums as part of the John Moores Prize.
The artist has said, 'I want to acknowledge and encourage a sense of vulnerability in both, you the viewer and the characters. The figures who populate the work are groups of animal-faced anthropomorphic figures who don’t quite fit...Animals reflect our deeper, unconditioned and infantile nature, the inherent ‘creatureliness’ of humans.
