This finely knotted wool rug presents a classic Ersari-Beshir design from the Turkmen weaving tradition, characterised by its elongated octagonal guls arranged in disciplined vertical rows. The deep madder-red ground is complemented by indigo, walnut brown, ivory, and rose tones, producing a palette typical of 19th-century Central Asian nomadic work. The motifs show the hallmarks of Beshir workshops: angular leaf forms, stepped floral devices, and repeated secondary guls outlined in midnight blue. The borders feature a chain of sunburst medallions and geometric guard stripes, giving the piece a balanced architectural frame. The tight asymmetric knotting and soft, aged handle indicate an earlier weave, while visible wear reflects long traditional use.
