Mola Tapestry of Abstract Figure
Mola Tapestry of Abstract Figure
This magnificently vibrant piece of Mola embroidery depicts a figure with a distinctive face created through the traditional use of vibrant colours and geometric forms. The Mola is a handmade textile originating with the indigenous Guna people in Panamá, Central America, and Colombia in South America. This art form has evolved to be an iconic symbol of the region. The textile itself is a part of the traditional women's clothing of the Guna, with "mola" translating to "shirt" or "clothing", and features bold patterns which form abstract designs depicting a large variety of creatures, figures and popular culture references. This particular piece was made in Peru.
