Raimon Roca Ricart - Landscape in Granera
Raimon Roca Ricart is an expert at creating atmosphere and mood through his palette. The deep tones of green and blue bring a mysterious aura, with the shadow and slightly grey sky evoking the moments before a storm. Depicting a scene of the historic town of Granera near Barcelona, Spain, Roca paints this isolated church on top of a hill to add to the overall ambience of this powerful piece.
Born in Vic, Spain in 1917, Raimon Roca established his career as an artist in Sabadell, going on to continue his training at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes of Barcelona. Having worked closely with Antoni Vila Arrufat, Roca had his first solo exhibition in Sabadell in 1941, and went on to hold many more throughout his career. Known for his landscapes and paintings of religious figures, as well as stained glass works, screen prints and much more, this multitalented artist always painted with a wonderfully vivid palette, celebrating the natural Mediterranean colours of his homeland.
